Church Usher commits suicide

A 45-year-old man has committed suicide after being accused of defiling a minor in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State. The deceased, identified as Jagbefume Oriagioge, allegedly hanged himself in his room at  Iregwa Street , Agbor on Saturday, July 17. Oriagioge, popularly called Pastor, hailed from an Esan community in Edo State and was a dedicated usher at a branch of the Redeemed Christian Church of  God , Agbor, also known as Freedom Hall parish. It was gathered that the deceased might have taken his own life after being accused of defiling one of his neighbours’ daughters. “The deceased was suspected to have ended his life as he could no longer bear the shame of allegedly having carnal knowledge of his neighbour’s female child (minor) and which was discussed at the community palace. Igboho Lawyer: He wept like a child when I spoke to him.

Lead counsel for arrested Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo aka Sunday Igboho, has described as inhuman, the treatment his client is  being subjected to in the custody of the police in Benin Republic. The counsel, Chief Yomi Alliyu ( SAN), said this while speaking with onTuesday night. He said Igboho’s wife, Ropo, a German citizen, who was arrested together with the activist, was also kept in a separate cell by the police in the neighbouring country. He said: “They chained him in the cell where they put him in Cotonou. There was a fracas at the airport yesterday when he was arrested. How Igboho was lured, before arrest.

Facts have emerged on how Yoruba nation activist, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, initially escaped arrest at the Cadjèhoun Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic before his eventual arrest around 8pm on Monday. A top security source said that Igboho and his wife, Ropo, at first, escaped arrest but a travel agent was used to lure them back to the airport. The source said:- “He (Igboho) was arrested in Cotonou on Monday night while he tried to travel. He was already at the airport with a passport. The immigration officers suspected the passport and so they stopped him. In the process, they discovered he was the one. He was able to escape in the course of discussion and we were grateful to God for that. “But the travel agent called back saying the matter had been resolved. But on going back, he was arrested. Federal High Court reinstates Osun Judge

 Federal High Court sitting in Abuja has on Tuesday reinstated Justice Olamide Folahanmi Oloyede of the Osun State High Court. Justice Oloyede was unjustly retired by the National Judicial Council (NJC) in 2016. Her retirement came when she was petitioned by the Osun Civil Societies Coalition for her failure to conduct herself in a manner preserving the dignity of her office, impartiality and independence of the Judiciary. The NJC, in suspending Justice Oloyede, stated that it found that she had conducted herself in a manner inimical to the dignity of her office as well as impartiality and independence of the judiciary when she sent a petition against then Governor of the state, Rauf Aregbesola, and his deputy to the State House of Assembly. She had also circulated the petition to 36 persons and organizations.
