Terrorists bomb Abuja-Kaduna rail track, derail train•Passenger recounts ordeal

A report says a KADUNA-Bound  train with an unspecified number of passengers on board was last night attacked by terrorists.  Many passengers were reported to be injured. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) and Kaduna State Government confirmed the incident. The gunmen were said to have blown up the rail track, forcing the 1000-capacity train to derail around Rijana, a village on the rail corridor in Kaduna. Israel hosting historic six-way US-Arab meeting.

Foreign ministers from four Arab League countries, along with the US secretary of state, are holding an historic meeting in Israel. It is the first time the ministers from the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Morocco and Bahrain will meet their Israeli counterpart in his home country. It comes after they normalised relations with Israel for the first time during the past year-and-a-half. The foreign minister of Egypt is also joining the talks. Egypt was the first Arab country to make peace with Israel, in 1979, though relations between them have often been cool. The six top diplomats are meeting on Sunday at a hotel in Sde Boker in the Negev desert in southern Israel and will hold talks on Monday. The meeting coincides with a tour of the region by US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken. He is visiting Israel, the West Bank, Morocco and Algeria on a five-day trip for talks on issues including Russia's war on Ukraine, tensions with Iran and the Israel-Palestinian conflict. Mr B...

Nigerian Radio Stations Cut Down Hours Of Operation Due To Rising Cost Of Diesel.

It has been revealed that some radio stations in Nigeria on Friday announced the cutting down on their hours of operation.  The Broadcasting Organisation of Nigeria has warned that television and radio stations in the country might shut down their operations over the persistent fuel scarcity and skyrocketing diesel prices. Yemisi Bamgbose, executive secretary of BON, stated that broadcast stations could no longer cope with the lingering fuel scarcity and skyrocketing prices of the black market fuel. “There is a lingering scarcity of petroleum products and diesel, which fuels the generating sets of these organisations, has more than doubled in price over the last four months,” reads part of the statement. Bamgbose stressed that broadcast stations which rely heavily on fuel to power their machines and keep them running at an optimal temperature to avoid overheating, are now running at a loss which has caused a delay in staff salaries. “With diesel costs averaging more tha...

                     The deceased A woman’s body has been found under a pile of clothes on an apartment balcony by a cleaner, months after she went missing. Audreona Barnes, 18, was last seen on July 30, 2021. She spoke with her family for the last time by phone that day before disappearing. Now her boyfriend Bennie Washington, 39, has been charged with aggravated murder and gross abuse of a corpse after her fatal shooting. Barnes’ body was found last Thursday, March 17, on the balcony of Bennie’s former apartment on Warner Road, in the Broadway-Slavic Village area of Cleveland, from where he had been evicted last March. A cleaner reportedly called police after finding Ms Barnes’ body on a balcony under a pile of clothes and blankets. Investigators said that it seemed as though the body had been put outside intentionally to speed up decomposition. Court documents reportedly stated that Ms Barnes had been shot in the head...

Kidnappers Release Kogi Businesswoman As Family Pays N5M Ransom.

The owner of Seat of Wisdom Supermarket, Lokoja, Kogi State, Mrs Ugochukwu Okpala, who was recently kidnapped has regained freedom from her abductors. She was kidnapped on Friday 4th March 2022 shortly after closing for the day. Family source said that she was released by her abductors after the payment of N5 million naira ransom. The source said others rallied round to raise the ransom, over two weeks after her abduction. “We remain grateful to God Almighty that she was freed in whole. Now, where do we go from here? Everyone rallied round. We had to combine forces to put up money. Five million naira was paid before they let the woman go. What is all these?” The Kogi State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), William Aya, is yet to confirm the release of Mrs Okpala.

Police in Mwiyala in the outskirts of Kakamega town, Kenya has arrested a 32-year-old woman who served her two children with food laced with poison leading to their death,. Pherine Maero, a nurse by profession, poisoned her two children, aged 7 and 9, on Saturday night, March 5 and later called her estranged husband, to “come and collect the bodies of your children.” Charles Akhonya, a watchman at the apartment where she lives, said the woman approached him at the gate at 3am, urging him to open the gate for the ‘husband’, but on following them to their house, he learned of two children lying dead on their bed. The woman, who tried to stab herself with a knife on the neck, was rescued and is receiving treatment at a Kakamega hospital, even as police investigate the matter. BREAKING: Court remands Abba Kyari in NDLEA Custody till March 14th Embattled DCP Abba Kyari. A  Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered embattled police cop, DCP Abba Kyari and six others be remanded in the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) till March 14. Kyari was arraigned on Monday morning before Justice Emeka Nwite where he pleaded not guilty to charges of Drug-Trafficking levelled against him. Abba Kyari was arraigned alongside four other senior police officers and two civilians. The NDLEA filed an 8-count charge against them. It was learned that the 6th and 7th defendants (the two civilians) pleaded guilty to counts 5, 6 and 7. Prosecution counsel, Joseph Sunday asked the court for an adjournment to enable them to review the facts against the defendants. He said this would enable them to confront them with the evidence. National Assembly Rejects Bills Seeking Special Seats For Women.

The national assembly has rejected a bill seeking to create special seats for women in the federal legislative arm of government. 208 members of the house of representatives against the provision of special seats for women. The bill was titled “A Bill for an Act to Alter the Provisions of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 to Provide for Special Seat for Women in the National and State Houses of Assembly; and for Related Matters”. 30 senators voted in favour of the bill seeking to create special seats for women in the national assembly, while 58 voted against it.

BREAKING: Reps Reject Bill Seeking Life Pension For Senate President, Speaker, Others.

The House of Representatives has voted against Bill 16 which proposed life pension for presiding officers of the National Assembly, in the ongoing amendment to the 1999 Constitution. While 162 members voted for the provision, 193 voted no and three others abstained. The votes failed to meet the required two-thirds or 240 of the 360 members of the House. The beneficiaries would have included President of the Senate, Speaker of the House of Representatives, Deputy President of the Senate, and Deputy Speaker of the House.
