MARAN to celebrate 34th anniversary, as key stakeholders in the maritime sector are set to receive excellence awards.

Afolabi Oyekunle. The Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria (MARAN) will celebrate its 34 Years of robust reportage of the maritime industry  on November 28th 2022 in Lagos. MARAN is an affiliate of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ). As the foremost maritime media association which was formed in November 1988, it has remained the umbrella body of all journalists posted to cover or report the activities of the nation's shipping and allied business.  MARAN will clock 34 years in existence in November 2022.  According to a statement issued in Lagos by Chairman Planning Committee of MARAN 34th Anniversary and Awards, Mr Dapo Olawuni, MARAN has lined up activities to celebrate this landmark event, this includes the conferment of Awards of Excellence on some notable corporate bodies and individuals who have greatly impacted positively on the growth and development of the maritime industry. Orelope-Adefulire Commiserates With Moshood Bello’s Family, APC Over Politician’s Demise; Says Death Is Huge Loss.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire has commiserated with the family of a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Alimoso Federal Constituency, Moshood Bello, who died on Tuesday, 25 October, 2022 Bello, popularly called Mobel, died via an auto crash at Okunola area of Alimoso Local Government when the Okada he was riding as a passenger was hit by a motorist. In her message to the family and the party, Princess Orelope-Adefulire described the death as shocking and unexpected. “I was shocked and devastated when I learnt of the news of Mobel’s death,” she lamented. She described the late Bello as a committed party man who has contributed in no small measures to the development and growth of the party. “He was a party man to the core and was committed to its growth. Man arrested for killing father in Lagos.

Afolabi Oyekunle. The police command in Lagos State has arrested a 21 -year-old man, who allegedly killed his 70-year-old father. The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the arrest on Tuesday. Hundeyin said that the police division in Abule-Egba area of the state got a report of the alleged murder from the wife of the alleged victim, who is also the mother of the suspect, on Saturday. The complainant stated further that on getting to the General Hospital Oke-Odo, the deceased was confirmed dead by a doctor. “The scene of crime has been visited by the police and the corpse taken to Isolo General Hospital mortuary for autopsy. “The suspect has been moved to the Homicide Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department, Panti, for investigation,” he said.    

CBN Announces Sale Of Polaris Bank, Unveils New Owner.

Afolabi Oyekunle. The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced the completion of the sale of Polaris Bank. Osita Nwanisobi, CBN’s Director, Corporate Communications, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday. Nwanisobi announced that the new core investor in the bank is Strategic Capital Investment Limited, disclosing that the deal was sealed with SCIL by the CBN and Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON). “Polaris has been operating as a bridge bank since 2018 when the Central Bank of Nigeria intervened to revoke the licence of the former Skye Bank Plc and established Polaris Bank to assume its assets and certain liabilities. As part of the CBN intervention, consideration bonds with a face value of N898 billion (future value of N1.305 trillion) was injected into the bridge bank through AMCON, to be repaid over a 25-year period. Don’t Travel To Nigeria, Australian Govt Warns Nationals

Afolabi Oyekunle. The Australian government has warned her citizens to avoid travelling to Nigeria due to flooding and civil unrest. This was contained in a travel advisory issued to Australians Wednesday, October 19, on the consulate’s website. The travel advisory partly reads: “There have been significant casualties and widespread damage to infrastructure caused by severe flooding. Essential services may be disrupted. Follow the advice of local authorities and check the media for updates. “The potential for terrorism, kidnapping, crime and civil unrest remains high throughout Nigeria.” The Australian consulate specifically asked its citizens to avoid going to Abuja and surrounding states because of insecurity. It said: “Reconsider your need to travel to Nigeria overall, including the capital Abuja and surrounding areas, due to high threats of terrorist attack and kidnapping, the volatile security situation, possible violent civil unrest and high levels of violent crime. “...

Police officers from the Adeniyi Adele Divisional Headquarters on Lagos Island in the state of Lagos have started looking for a woman who escaped after her sex partner passed away while having an affair with h er in a well-known hotel. According to information the incident took place at the Crown Inn Hotel  Adeniji Adele area,lagos island after a male guest stayed in the hotel with the woman for a brief period of time. According to the management of the hotel, the lovers came to the hotel and ordered for drinks and locked themselves inside the room making love. However, after one hour, the lady came out from the room and pretended that she was going to buy something outside the hotel unknown to the management that the lady was escaping in the guise that she was going to purchase something across the road. Atiku Will Win By 7 Million Votes Margin, Ayu Says.

Iyiorcha Ayu, the  PDP ’s national chairman, has boasted that  Atiku Abubakar , the party’s presidential candidate, would surprise Nigerians in the 2023 elections by winning by a landslide margin of seven million votes. At a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday at the Multi-Purpose Indoor Sports Hall in Bauchi, he made this statement. Atiku had earlier received thousands of defectors from the All Progressives Congress and other political parties, at a ceremony held the same day at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi.
