Banks in Lagos refuse to pay money to customers.

Most banks in Lagos state on Monday locked their premises and refused to pay money to their numerous customers as they said they are waiting further directives from the Central Bank of Nigeria.   It was observed that the banks decided to close their offices while awaiting further directive from the Central Bank of Nigeria following the Supreme Court’s ruling of Friday. A seven-member panel of the apex court on Friday held that the old N200, N500 and N1000 notes remain legal tender until December 31. NUBIFIE urges Outsourcing companies to embrace fair labour practices.

By Afolabi Oyekunle. Outsourcing companies in the banking sector have been  challenged to copy the practice in other countries and emulate same in Nigeria. National President of National Union of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions, ( NUBIFIE) Comrade Anthony Abakpa said the way outsourcing is practice in other countries  is not the way it is practice in Nigeria. Speaking with Correspondent Afolabi Oyekunle, Comrade Abakpa said workers should be treated according to International Labour Organization (ILO) acts on outsourcing and all the conditions laid down by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. NLC declares war on Casualisation of Workers.

The era of Casualisation of workers in the country without regard for their welfare,  seems to be on the way out, as Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC)  is out to regularise and ensure employers comply with labour acts. Towards this the Nigerian Labour Congress is all out to confront employers who delight in enslaving workers in the name of Casualisation. The newly elected president of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joseph Ajaero said it will not be business as usual for the employers as the Congress under his leadership is out to engage such employers, and to achieve this, it is reviving its anti casualisation committee to work with the industrial unions under NLC. NUBIFIE: Cashless policy will boost economy, calls on Nigerians to support it.

NLC to take over structures of Labour party and makes it a true workers party.

The Labour Party as presently stand does not serve the interest of Nigerian workers but those using the party to fulfill their political ambitions. This is coming from the Nigeria Labour Congress President Comrade Joe Ajaero who has vowed that the party is to be reorganised, ideologies and make it conform with demands of workers. Maritime Workers Union issues 2-week ultimatum to FG, threatens shut down of maritime sector.

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria has issued a two week ultimatum to the Federal government for the payment of all monthly payments of seafarers or face shutdown of maritime sector.
