Workers deserve living wages so says NUCFRLANMPE President.

The present value of 70thousand naira minimum wage has diminished significantly in value due to economic situation in the country and workers should be paid living wages.

The National President of the National Union of Chemical Footwear, Rubber Leather And Non-Mettallic Products Employees - NUCFRLANMPE, Comrade Bolarinwa Olusola Sunday said this while speaking on the plight of the workers in the country as the Workers Day is celebrated on May 1 2025.

Comrade Bolarinwa who spoke to ForumNews said transport, housing costs having rising so high that workers are left with absolute nothing after this items.

He said the present situation could be likened to giving money with the right hand and taking it back with the left hand.

The Labour leader called on the Federal Government to engage with the leaders of the labour to work out a reasonable and living wages for workers.


Comrade Bolarinwa said the present economy system is not friendly to workers and Nigerians calling on the government to diversify and shift attention to more areas such as cottage industry and agriculture.
He also called on investors to engage in the agricultural sector to guarantee enough supply of raw materials to industries and food for the people.

Comrade Bolarinwa challenged the federal and states governments to build affordable low cost houses to bring down the high cost of houses.

Speaking on the cost of energy in production, he said the introduced different types of Bands are not helping matters as they are costly pushing the cost of production high. He called for the disbandment of the Bands and concentration on ensuring adequate generation of power and distribution.

Speaking on his sector, he commended the employers for giving consideration to the employees by allowing increase in their pay and allowances.

He also commended members of NURFLANMPE for their solidarity with the Association. Comrade Bolarinwa promised to give priority to welfare of members and always fight for their rights.

PenCom urges Lagos State Governor to extend periodic pension increase to retirees under CPS, as Sanwoolu welcomes the idea.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom)  has called on  the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to extend periodic pension increases currently enjoyed by Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) retirees to those under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to boost their monthly pensions.  The Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, made the request during a courtesy visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on 7 May 2025. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
