Omisande: CPS Pensioners in Lagos State assured of payment of their increase pension benefits as their Federal counterparts.

 By Afolabi Oyekunle.

Pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme(CPS) in Lagos State have been urged to be patient concerning their much awaited  increases, as there are assurance that all what they are entitled to will be paid earlier next year.

This assurance is coming from the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, Contributory Pension Scheme, NUPCPS, Lagos State Council, Comrade Michael Omisande.

Comrade Omisande who spoke to ForumNews at the sideline of the end of year get together of Agege Zone Pensioners said what is delaying is the Template which is being awaited

Comrade Omisande said just as the Federal workers who have started receiving their own entitlements, all Pensioners under the scheme in other five states will receive their own as  approved by the Federal government.

According to him, the PFA'S have been given till 20th December to pay all Federal Pensioners. He said after the completion of the Payment, PenCom will thereby release the Template to the 5 states under the CPS.

Comrade Omisande said the Union has in good authority from the Lagos State government, Mr.Babajide Sanwoolu that as soon as the Template is released the state government will look into it, towards implementation.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwoolu .

He however called on the DG LASPEC, Mr. Babalola Ibilana  to be proactive and stop dragging the payment backwards.

According to him, since he has been having meetings with his federal counterparts on Pension matters, he should know about the provisions of the Template and make necessary provisions in the budget for the state government to pay.

   DG PENCOM Ms Omolola Oloworaran

According to Comrade Omisande, the DG LASPEC cannot claim ignorant of the provisions of the Template if truly he has the interest of CPS Pensioners in Lagos State at heart.

Speaking on end of year packages announced by some state governments for their retirees, Comrade Omisande said the Union does not know what is happening in Lagos State as nothing has been announced.

According to him in 2024, the Governor made provisions for end of year package for CPS Pensioners which the DG LASPEC, Mr. Babalola Ibilana, failed to implement. He said when Governor Babajide Sanwoolu asked him about it, he could not answer what when wrong.

He however assured CPS Pensioners in Lagos State that the union will continue to follow developments as soon as the Federal Pensioners are all paid their entitlements and ensure that Lagos State Pensioners are not deprive of their own benefits.

He called on Governor Sanwoolu to prioritize the welfare of Pensioners in the state and see that they're not neglected and deprive of their entitlements and ensure provisions for the implementation in the 2026 budget.
