Independence Day good offer as Abuja-Kaduna Passenger Train Services resumes October 1st.

 The much awaited resumption of suspended Abuja-Kaduna Train Services is to begin on Independence Day, October 1st.

This is according to a  statement released by NRC Chief Public Relations Officer,  Callistus Unyimadu .

The service was suspended following the incident of August 26, 2025 as a result of derailment of the train 


NRC says the commercial service resumption is as a result of   the successful completion of all required safety, technical, and operational checks and  underscores the Corporation’s commitment to ensuring smooth, reliable, and secure train services for the traveling public.

"In line with our priority on passenger welfare after the August 26, 2025 incident, NRC wishes to state that:

Out of the 583 passengers on board, 530 passengers were contacted by phone, out of which 512 have successfully received refunds.

All 22 injured passengers have been contacted, many visited by our medical team, and will enjoy one free ride per week until December 31, 2025.

All 618 people on board during the August 26, 2025 accident will be entitled to one free ride before December 31, 2025."

According to the release every Wednesday has been scheduled as maintenance for the Train Service.

"The Corporation appreciates the patience and understanding of all Nigerians especially train passengers during the period of the suspension and reaffirms its commitment to providing safe, reliable, affordable, efficienawt, secured and more customer-friendly train transportation alternatives across the country."

PenCom urges Lagos State Governor to extend periodic pension increase to retirees under CPS, as Sanwoolu welcomes the idea.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom)  has called on  the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to extend periodic pension increases currently enjoyed by Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) retirees to those under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to boost their monthly pensions.  The Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, made the request during a courtesy visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on 7 May 2025. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
