. Mr Anya preparing to vote
The foremost journalists association in the Maritime Industry, Maritime Reporters Association of Nigeria, Maran today in a keenly contested election elected Mr Anya Njoku for a second time in office.
In an election conducted by the executive members of the Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists led by its chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi, the incumbent president of the association, Mr Anya Njoku defeated a senior journalist with the Vanguard Newspapers, Mr Godfrey Bivbere by 22 votes to 17 votes.
In an election that could best be described as a "mini war" due to the confrontation and antecedents before the election, Mr David Oladimeji also a veteran correspondent in the Maritime Industry defeated Mr Augustine Nwadinamuo by 26 votes to 11 votes.
Obiajulu Agu emerged the new Secretary General defeating the incumbent Mr Dapo Olawuni by 22 votes to 14 votes.
Some Officers were returned unopposed, Mr Oluyinka Onigbinde as public relations officer, Mr Ken Jukpor as Assistant Secretary, Chiazor Ogbolu, as Treasurer and Joy Enamuna as Financial.
Lagos State NUJ Chairman, Mr Adeleye Ajayi described the election as 'family' affair and urged members to cooperate with the new executive to move the association forward.
To the new executive members of Maran he called on them to evolve pragmatic approach to better the lots of the members.
