The workers who besieged the Bank's premises as early as  6.30am were singing solidarity songs denouncing the actions of Polaris bank management.

Speaking with newsmen on the issue, the General Secretary of the Union, Comrade Mohammed Sheikh said about 40 workers including cleaners and security men were laid off without due process and laid down procedures.

Comrade Sheik said many of the workers had put in between 5years to 20years and were given only one month salary in lieu of notice and exist package.

He said the picketing was just a warning strike for the management to follow due process. The General Secretary said if at all the workers are to be sacked they should be well remunerated according to existing agreement.

He said the action of Polaris bank to the workers was not fair and NUBIFIE would not accept such.

Comrade Sheik said the picketng would be enlarged to involve the Nigeria Labour Congress if Polaris bank refuses to follow due process.

Meanwhile, Polaris bank has said it did not violate any law in the recent disengagement of the staff as it was done  in  line with the terms of the contract guiding their engagement.

This is according to a release signed by Mr. Nduneche Ezurike, Group Head, Brand Management and Corporate Communication.

The bank emphasized that a cordial relationship has existed between her and the union over the years and believes that concerns raised by either party can be effectively addressed through dialogue.

"Polaris bank remains committed to employ fostering a harmonious working relationship and ensuring the well being of its employees".

The bank therefore called for a meeting between its management and representatives of NUBIFIE scheduled for Wednesday 7th June 2023 to resolve the issue.
