Police Has No Right To Search Cell Phonez-AIG Ali

The Assistant Inspector General of Police, Zone 2_ Alhaji Mohammed Ari Ali has said that the police has no right to demand and search phones of private individuals.
Ali who made this known recently during at visit to headquarters of National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders, (NAGAFF) in Lagos however pointed out that this can only be done when there is a defined problem with the phone.
Regarding the request for clearing documents from truck drivers after exiting the port gates by the police and allegation of collecting bribes from drivers returning empty containers at mile 2 area of Lagos, the AIG promised to liase with AIG Marine with a view to nip the acts in the bud.
He told the freight forwarders to report any untoward activities of any policeman within Lagos and Ogun state for necessary action.
The AIG explained further that the police alone cannot provide security hence it requires assistance of the community in order to provide adequate security.
According to him one of the major dividend of democracy is community policing which enables the police to enter into partnership to fight crime
