NUBIFIE welcomes recapitalization of Banks, warns it will resist any illegal labour acts concerning workers.

The Central Bank of Nigeria directive to banks to recapitalize thereby raising there capital base which may involve merger of Banks, injection of more funds is not a threat to the banking sector but would help in stabilizing the banks and aids the economy.
This is coming from the National President of National Union of Banks Insurance and Financial Institutions Employees (NUBIFIE) Comrade Anthony Abakpa, FISN Mni, while speaking in his office to ForumNews Editor Afolabi Oyekunle on the impacts of the recapitalization to Bank workers.
Comrade Abakpa said it is a government decision which the union cannot work against but assured that the association would not tolerate her members being thrown out under the guise of recapitalization without due process and labour acts.
On how the workers under NUBIFIE have fared in the last one year, Comrade Abakpa FISN Mni, said it has been tough due to economic factors such as the petroleum subsidy and challenges of parallel banks.
NUBIFIE National President said the new improved technology in the banking sector and parallel banks have taken the jobs of some of the workers in the sector.
He however said that the association is not resting on its oars and as the economy bounce back it will affect the banking sector positively.
Comrade Abakpa FISN Mni said the Association also in the last one year had to picketed Polaris Bank and Heritage bank.
According to him, Polaris Bank sacked some outsourced workers without due process while Heritage bank failed in engaging the Association but rather went to the Industrial court to back it's action, which the Association is restricting.
Speaking on outsourcing of workers by Banks, he said it is an international practice which has come to stay in Nigeria, but frowned the way it is practiced in Nigeria in which many of the employers fail to comply with International Labour Organization (ILO) regulations on industrial practice.
The NUBIFIE National President said the Association has able to whither the storms and called on Banks and financial institutions workers to continue to educate themselves and key to improve technology in the financial sectors.
He assured of better days ahead as the present government is desirous of improving the economy to the betterment of the people.
Also speaking to ForumNews, the General Secretary of NUBIFIE, Comrade Mohammed Sheik called on the workers to remain steadfast.
On the recapitalization of Banks, Comrade Sheik said the Association is engaging stakeholders and plans to engage the National Assembly towards proactively mitigating the effects on the workers.
He called on employers to always look at the humanitarian aspects before taking harsh decisions
In another development, while speaking during a leadership training workshop for Domestic Committee Chairmen, Secretaries, and National Workers of the Union, the Head Training Department, Comrade Sola Aboderin called on the workers to always improve themselves ethically and embrace advanced technology

He said the Association is desirous of keeping them abreast of new developments through regular training.
