Investors ask to invest in the Railway sector. .... Honourable Onuh Chairman Committee on Transportation

The Nigerian Railway sector offers a great potential and is attractive since it has been unbundling. Investors are therefore encouraged to invest in the sector.
The Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Land Transportation, Honourable Blessing Onuh said this while answering questions from newsmen at the Obafemi Awolowo Train Station, in Moniya, IBADAN.
Honourable Onuh has led members of her committee to inspect facilities of the Nigerian Railway Corporation at the Ebute-Metta station, Kajola Wagon plant in Ogun State and at Moniya station in IBADAN.
She said the federal government was interested in the growth of the railway sector hence the decision to amend the Act that gave the sole right to operate train services to only the Nigerian Railway Corporation.
She said private people and Corporate bodies are now free to invest in the Railway sector as it offers great potentials for business.
Honourable Onuh commended the management of the Nigerian Railway Corporation for what they have been doing and pledged that the House Committee will see to it that the government continues to support the Corporation.
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Engineer Fidet Okhiria took the Committee members on the facilities tour and at each point explained the technicalities in the operation of the train services.
At the Kajola Rolling Stock Wagon Assembly, the Honourables were conducted round to show the efforts the plant has been making to ensure it produces spare parts locally for the railway sector.
The facilities tour saw the Chairman of the House Committee and her members and officials of the Nigerian Railway Corporation travelled on the standard gauge lane in one of the modern trains from Lagos to IBADAN.
The Honourable House Committee Chairman also commended the Lagos State government for investing in the Railway sector and for providing good structures, urging others to follow.
