Tantita briefs House Committee on Oil Theft, suggests collaboration as key to combat menace

 Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TANTITA) has emphasised  inter-agency collaboration, community engagement, and advanced technology  as key in fighting oil theft in the country.

The Executive Director, Operations and Technical, Tantita Security Services Nigeria Ltd., Captain Warredi Enisuoh said this on Friday at the House of Representatives Special Committee on Crude Oil Theft, public hearing to address the pressing issue of crude oil theft in Nigeria.


The hearing brought together representatives from various organizations, including the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), TANTITA Security Services Nigeria Limited (TANTITA), Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), and Department of State Services (DSS).
``The public hearing underscores the severity of crude oil theft in Nigeria and its far-reaching consequences.

``TANTITA's presentation stood out for its data-driven approach, showcasing the effectiveness of their efforts in combating oil theft.

``The need for inter-agency collaboration, community engagement, and advanced technology in fighting oil theft was emphasized,'' he said.

He said that the public hearing marked a crucial step towards addressing the scourge of crude oil theft in Nigeria. 

``The presentations and discussions highlighted the need for a collective effort to combat this menace,'' he said.
He said that Tantita's presentation included statistics on oil theft reduction in areas where they operate, details of their surveillance and monitoring systems.
``Others in the presentation are success stories of arrested oil thieves and recovered stolen oil and recommendations for strengthening the fight against oil theft,'' he said.

At the hearing, the NNPCL highlighted the impact of crude oil theft on the nation's economy and the need for collaborative efforts to address the issue.
NIWA emphasised the importance  of securing inland waterways to prevent oil theft.
CBN discussed the financial implications of oil theft and the need for a multi-faceted approach to address the issue.
DSS shared intelligence on the modus operandi of oil thieves and the need for enhanced security measures.
