NIMASA committed to further development of shipping industry to boost economy. DG Mobereola.

The Nigerian Maritime and Safety Agency (NIMASA) will leave no stone unturned to ensure the Maritime Industry boosts the economy and Nigerian people to benefit from the Industry. 

The Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dayo Mobereola gave the words of encouragement in Lagos at Eko Hotels during his first interactive session with Maritime practitioners.

On the disbursement of CVFF grants to indigenous shipping companies to enable them participate actively in the industry, Dr. Mobereola said the Agency is working out arrangements to ensure the funds is used for the shipping industry.

While agreeing that the Funds will boost indigenous participation in the industry , he said the CVFF is not about the vessels alone, but availability of cargoes and to ensure that they make revenue and utilize it for the benefit of the shipping industry.

The DG said the Agency is not unaware of the contributions of the indigenous shipping companies and would work modalities to ensure proper utilisation of the funds.

Dr. Mobereola who spoke on several issues concerning the industry said the Agency will soon come out with proper action on the Floating Dock that has not been put to use.
 He said right plans that will be beneficial to the economy and the economy and NIMASA will be put in place.
The DG faulted the original plan for the floating dock which he assured will be corrected.

Speaking on safety on Nigerian waters giving occurrence of several incidents recently, Dr Mobereola said NIMASA is collaborating with the National Inland Waterways Authority to come out with strategies that will reduce the incessant mishaps.

On piracy, he said the Agency is reviewing the NIMASA act of 2007 to ensure registration of every single boat that plies the Nigerian waters. He assured that every boat will be registered and regulated to ensure their identity and discover those who engage in unwholesome practices.

The NIMASA DG called for collaboration between the Agency and Media practitioners, assuring that the Agency will focus on giving them required training and see to their welfare.

The interaction was well attended by media practitioners and Directors of NIMASA.
