Following the arrest of the NLC President, Comrade Joe Ajaero today by the State Security Services (SSS) at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria has called for his immediate release, threatening actions.
The NLC President who was on his way to Britain to attend Workers Congress of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) of Britain was taken away by the SSS.
A statement by the Head of Media of the Maritime Workers Union, Comrade John Kennedy threatened that the union will abide by any decision taken by NLC to effect the immediate release of the NLC President.
The Union under the leadership of Comrade Prince Adewale Adeyanju, who is also the Deputy President of NLC condemned the arrest of the NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero.
The stand of the Maritime Workers Union may see to the disruption of work activities at the country's sea ports.
Already the NLC has put all it's affiliates, unions and Non Government Agencies on red alert following the development.
The National Administrative Council of the NLC said the NLC President must be released before midnight today
