***As Operators, Youths. Others Warm UP For Participation

Organizers, willing participants are expected at the long awaited one-day Sensitisation Seminar put together by the management of of True witnesses Communications and Media Services, the Publishers of News Emperor Magazine are counting just as the there is only one day to go.


This is also as stakeholders and operators in the maritime, transport and shipping sector, Nigerians from other sectors of the economy including youths are warming up to be part of the Sensitisation seminar. 

Meanwhile, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, the National Agency for Foods and Drugs Administration and Control, NAFDAC, the Standard Organisation of Nigeria, SON, Pharmacy Council of Nigeria, PCN, and the Office of the National Security Adviser will be storming Lagos  for a One-day Enlightenment and Sensitisation seminar on drug-related issues.

The NDLEA will be leading other government security agencies for the enlightenment scheduled to take place on Thursday, August 28, 2025, at  Lagos Airport Hotel Ikeja, Lagos.

The various participants who will be coming from all sectors of the economy will be brainstorming on the theme: "Nigerian Youths and the Danger of Drug Abuse."

In a press release made available by the management of Truewitness Communications and Media Services, the Publishers of News Emperor Magazine and signed by its publisher and Editor-in-Chief, Pastor Ambrose Obioma Okehi, it states that the seminar will be bringing together experts from various fields to share insights and strategies for combating drug abuse.

The seminar objectives, the statement noted, include raising awareness among young Nigerians while also educating the public about the inherent dangers of involvement in illicit substances and drug abuse as well as the importance of prevention and treatment.

The statement reads: "The seminar will feature experts from various fields to share insights and strategies for combating drug abuse. 

The seminar will equally develop practical solutions for addressing the menace of drug abuse in Nigeria. 

The seminar will help in fostering partnership and collaboration among public, private organizations, including government agencies, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to combat drug abuse."

At the end of the seminar, it is expected that the outcome would develop effective strategies for addressing the menace of drug abuse in Nigeria. 

The one-day seminar will be chaired by the Chairman, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Brigadier General Buba Marwa (rtd) and Co-chaired by the Commandant, Customs Training College, Ikeja, Deputy Comptroller of Customs, Hailey Madison.

The seminar will create the needed awareness and educate the Nigerian public while serving as an eye-opener to our teeming Nigerian youths, many of whom are already engrossed in drug-related abuses and other social vices. 

The seminar, which will draw participants from almost all the sectors of the economy, will effectively sensitise the public, create the needed awareness, and educate the youths on the inherent dangers and consequences of involvement in drug addiction.

We also want to use the instrumentalities of our own medium and other media outfits as agenda setters, opinion molders, and as watchdogs of society to join the government authorities and agencies in fighting this drug war against cartels, peddlers, and traffickers as well as its usage of dangerous drugs in the country.

The CEO of Truewitness Communications, Pastor Okehi said: "We want to use media power to rigorously campaign against drug abuse in Nigeria." Speaking about the benefits, he said, through the seminar, participants and nonparticipants will be inundated with experts' views and opinions about the dangers and harmful effects of illicit usage. Participants will receive first-hand information on the hazards and dangers of indulging in drug abuse.

The forum, which will draw together many federal government ministries, will be seen as an avenue to correct the erroneous and long-held impressions about smuggling of these illicit and dangerous substances, a situation where some even claim that smuggling is their legitimate right, their best occupation in life, or their share of our national cake.

Other subtopics to be handled by the various organizations at the event will include:

- "The Role of Office of the National Security Adviser in Curtailing the Menace of Prohibited and Illicit Drugs through a Well-Coordinated Intelligence Security Network" to be delivered by the NSA;
- "The Danger of Smuggling Illicit and Other Dangerous Substances into Nigeria" by the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS;
- "Nigerian Youths: Drug Abuse and National Security Challenges" by the IG of Police;
- "Curbing the Vices and Harmful Effects of Illicit Drugs among Nigerian Youths through Effective Checks" by the NDLEA Boss;
- "The Role of NAFDAC in Controlling Influx of Unregistered and Dangerous Substances into the Country" by the DG of NAFDAC;
- "The Role of NSCDC in Checkmating Criminal Activities in Rural Communities in Nigeria" by the Commandant General of NSCDC;
- "Dealing with a Drug-Infected Society: The Perspective of the National Presidential Adviser on Drug

PenCom urges Lagos State Governor to extend periodic pension increase to retirees under CPS, as Sanwoolu welcomes the idea.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom)  has called on  the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to extend periodic pension increases currently enjoyed by Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) retirees to those under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to boost their monthly pensions.  The Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, made the request during a courtesy visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on 7 May 2025. The visit was to present the report of PenCom’s 2024 routine inspection of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) and to thank the Governor for confirming his participation as Special Guest at the Pension Industry Leadership Retreat starting 8 May 2025. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
