National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) is seeking for stiffer punishment for drug related offences to help minimize and discourage those who indulge in it.
Towards this the Agency has submitted a bill at the National Assembly towards looking into the existing penalities and also make it specific.
This was stated at a one day education seminar for the youths on the danger of drug abuse, in Lagos by the Assistant Commander of Narcotics in Lagos State, Uche Sampson who represented the Chairman of NDLEA, Rtd. Brigadier Buba Marwa.
With the Theme, " Nigerian Youths & The Danger of Drug Abuse", the Seminar at the Airport Hotel, Ikeja, was put together by True Witness Communications and Media Services.
He used the occasion to call on Nigerian youths to refrain from drug abuse attributing youths involvement in crime to to drugs.
According to him drug abuse among the youths has become a major challenge urging parents not to abandon their children and constantly watch their behavior and those they associate with
The Assistant Commander of Narcotics said NDLEA is not resting on its public enlightenment of the dangers of drug abuse as it engage in regular public enlightenment.
He therefore called on all stakeholders to join NDLEA in fighting the war against drug abuse as NDLEA cannot do it alone.
The Guest Speaker, Professor Babatunde Samuel, Registrar Port and Terminal Management Academy of Nigeria, noted that drug abuse has become a major health issue in the country particularly among the youths.
He called for all to be concerned as it has many consequences for the nation and security.
Professor Samuel appealed to the youths to desist from drugs at it could damage their health and affect their senses
In his words sent to the occasion, Group Managing Director, Widescope International Group of Companies, Dr. Oluwasegun Alade Musa also advised the youths to desist from drug abuse.
Dr. Musa who was represented by Mr. Mark Onuchi emphasized the need for the youths to refrain from crime, and live to become better citizens.

Dr. Alade Musa pledged his support to programmes that could enhance youths development in the country.
In his address Converner of the Seminar who is the Publisher of News Emperor Magazine, Pastor Ambrose Obiona Okehi said his personnel experience in some years back involving a drug addict was one of the innovations for him to see to the curb of drug abuse in the country.
He pledged that he would continue to use his influence as a Publisher to address the issue of drug abuse among the youths through publications and subsequent seminars.
