Pensioners in Lagos state are not please with the Lagos State Pension Commission, LASPEC under the Director General, Babalola Obilana, accusing the Commission of treating them as second class citizens.
Chairman, Caretaker Committe, Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Lagos State, Comrade Olufemi Olanrewaju spoke the minds of the Pensioners at the meeting between the leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP and leaders of Contributory Pension Scheme led by Comrade Michael Omisande.
Comrade Olanrewaju said LASPEC has been been confronted with several issues affecting the welfare of Pensioners, including the demand for the payment of 60 pension arears for DBS Pensioners and Pension Arears for CPS Pensioners.
According to him, LASPEC has been told that if urgent steps are not taking to clear the arears it will lead to protests by Pensioners in Lagos State.
Also speaking, the Chairman Contributory Pension Scheme, Comrade Michael Omisande praised the leadership prowess of Comrade Olarenwaju and promised to partner with NUP in the task of fighting for the welfare of Pensioners in Lagos State.
Comrade Omisande said "We are One and we shall do things together saying War is looming over LASPEC foot dragging on the implementation of Pension increases after submission of the Template ."
Comrade Omisande used the occasion to brief them of plans by NUPCPS to build a Lagos Pensioners House which would accommodate DBS and CPS Pensioners Unions and that a Philanthropist would come to their aid.
He wants the NUP to be co opted in to the arrangement from the beginning to the end.
The meeting deliberated on several issues and agreed to work in unity in the interest of Pensioners in Lagos State.
Also in attendance were Nigeria Union of Pensioners, State Secretary, Olukayode Bada, and Comrade Olagbaye Johnson, the Principal Secretary, NUPCPS Lagos state council.
Also in attendance NUPCPS, Comrades Michael Omisande, chairman, Lagos State Council, Olufemi John Bisam, National Secretary, Olagbaye Johnson, Principal Secretary, Biodun Akinbusuyi, General Secretary and Folorunso Akinde, ex-Officio.
