The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has frowned over the destruction and theft of railway assets worth millions of naira in the Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State.
In a press release, the Corporation alleged that the incident occurred at the Mile One-Ten axis in Ibadan, and was led by the Chairman of Ibadan South-West LG, Hon. Kehinde Adeyemi Amanda.
According to NRC, the Chairman was accompanied by a group of thugs, individuals in Nigerian Army uniforms, and operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
"The group reportedly vandalized critical infrastructure, including rails, sleepers, signal poles, and perimeter fences belonging to NRC tenants.
.Attempts by NRC Police officers to intervene were reportedly resisted, forcing them to withdraw to avoid a violent escalation.
Describing the act as a grave violation of federally protected assets, the NRC confirmed it is documenting the incident for legal and administrative action.
The Managing Director of the NRC, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, has thereby appealed to Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene and call the council chairman to order, warning that such actions threaten the safety of railway workers and national infrastructure
