Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state want the state government to speed up the process of payment of their Pension Arears and allowances as approved by the Federal government.
Chairman Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Omisande who spoke on behalf of the Pensioners with FocusNews accused the government of not been proactive in the past towards the payment.
Comrade Omisande who took time to visit members of the Agege zone and Ifako-Ijaiye zone of the Pensioners during their monthly meeting said initially the government was not interested in payment of the money despite collecting the Template for payment.
He said the intervention of the NLC Chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Funmi Sessi, PenCom Director General Omolola Oloworaran, and the NUP, together with the aggressive posture of the State Contributory Scheme Association made the government to shift its posture.
He therefore called on the government to work towards immediate payment of all the Pensioners areas.
Comrade Omisande said in conjunction with the state NLC, NUP and Pencom, the process of the payment will be monitor persistently to ensure the government is not dragging it's feet on the payment.
The CPS chairman therefore called on the Pensioners to continue to exercise patience as the efforts of the union is yielding positive steps with the assurance that the money will be paid.
He advised the Pensioners to prioritise their health as only the living can benefit from the package when eventually paid.
Most of the Pensioners called on the government to expedite action on the payment of the arears, as their monthly pension is nothing to write about.
They lamented that many of their members had died due to lack of resources to treat affordable sicknesses.
It could be recalled that President Bola Tinubu last year, 2025 approved the payment of Pension Arears and other allowances for Pensioners which has already been paid to workers at the Federal level.
However, the Lagos state government has been dragging its feet in the payment to her Pensioners.
