May Day: ASCSN leadership vows commitment to members welfare

As Workers celebrate May Day today,  the leadership of the union under the National President, Comrade Shehu Mohammed and the Secretary General, Comrade Joshua Apebo have vowed their commitment to be focus and  continue to pursue the welfare of  members in the Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) at the Federal and 36 States Public Services.


This is contained in the May Day message of the Union.



According to the leaders, they  have since assuming office on 12th August 2024 at the 5th Quadrennial National Delegates Conference of the Association held at Airport Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos, convinced the Federal Government to:

Restore payment of gratuity to public service employees with effect from January 2026. Payment of gratuity which  was stopped since 2004 when the Pension Reforms Act was introduced even though that law did not expressly abolish gratuity.

.Agree to pay arrears of Wage Awards to Public Service Employers in the Federal MDAs in April and May.

Pay newly recruited teachers in the 110 Unity Schools throughout the country.

To start settling outstanding promotion and salary arrears in the Unity Schools that will spread to other MDAs in due course.

Unveil N10 billion housing loan scheme designed to increase access to affordable homeownership for Federal Public Service Employees.

The Association said other welfare issues are still being pursued.

PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists. CPS Pensioners in Lagos State, call on Governor Sanwoolu to expedite action on their Pension increases.

By Afolabi Oyekunle.  Pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) in Lagos State have called on the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu to expedite action and see that the unnecessary delay in the payment of their pension increases are removed.         LSG Governor Babajide Sanwoolu  Many of the Pensioners who spoke to ForumNews are not happy that their arears under the pension increases have not been paid as approved by the Federal government, despite that their federal counterparts have received their own.
