NRC MD reiterates commitment towards workers training and re-training.

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Railway Corporation, Dr. Kayode Opeifa has reiterated his 
commitment towards training and exposure of the Corporation’s workers to the deepening of their 
professional competence and attuned them to global best practices.

Dr. Opeifa stated this during his interaction with the Nigerian Railway Corporation’s delegation to this year's edition of Nigerian Institute of Public Relations Week and Annual General Meeting, taking place at the Brig Gen Abba Kyari Banquet Hall, Government House, Kaduna State. 


He expressed hope that the conference would equip the delegates' with requisite skills, knowledge 
and expertise in the discharge of their duties.

Speaking earlier, NRC’s Chief Public Relations Officer, Mr. Callistus Unyimadu, appreciated the Managing Director and the management of the Corporation for always supporting the Public Relations Department 
of the Corporation to meet and even surpass expectations.

He said that the annual Public Relations Week afforded the staff the opportunity to interact with 
professional colleagues from different government’s MDAs and private institutions across the country and 
beyond, adding that this no doubt, would ensure efficient service delivery.

Also speaking, the Special Adviser to the Managing Director on Media and Communication, Mr. Yinka 
Aderibigbe, described this year's Public Relations Week as one of the best in terms of organisation as there were highly educative and intellectual engagements that have no doubt imparted the participants. 

He equally praised Dr. Kayode Opeifa for his exceptional commitment to Human Resources development of 
all arms of the corporation.

This year's edition of the Annual General Meeting of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations was 
declared open by the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency, Senator Kashim 
Shettima, GCON, accompanied by the host State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas, the Minister of Information, Alhaji Mohammed Idris, the 
Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar Maiha, the Minister of Agriculture and Food 
Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, the immediate past Minister of Transportation, Senator Sa’id Ahmed and many other digitaries.

Welcoming the delegates and guests, the National President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations, Dr. Ike Neliaku assured that the 63 year old Nigerian Institute of Public Relations is now better positioned to showcase all the great and wonderful things about Nigeria.

 He called on Nigerians to remember that 
regardless of the challenges being faced by the country, successes are also being recorded across various 
sectors of the economy.


The Chairman of the National Orgranising Committee of the NIPRW, Chief Yomi Badejo Okusanya, said the 
conference was an eye opener to the over 2000 delegates from across the country, who saw first hand that the insecurity situation in the Northern parts of the country wasn’t as bad as portrayed by the media.

He applauded the State Governor Senator Uba Sani, for his giant strides on infrastructural development 
adding that he is happy to see that he could move about freely in the Kaduna metropolis even at 12 
midnight without any fear of insecurity.

Among the NRC delegation were the Assistant Chief Public Relations Officer, who doubles as the 
Acting Chairman NIPR of the Enugu Chapter, Dr. Onyedikachi Stanley Onovo,  Senior Public Relations Officers and many other digitaries .

PenCom urges Lagos State Governor to extend periodic pension increase to retirees under CPS, as Sanwoolu welcomes the idea.

The National Pension Commission (PenCom)  has called on  the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to extend periodic pension increases currently enjoyed by Defined Benefit Scheme (DBS) retirees to those under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS) to boost their monthly pensions.  The Director General of PenCom, Ms. Omolola Oloworaran, made the request during a courtesy visit to Governor Sanwo-Olu at the Lagos State Government House on 7 May 2025. The visit was to present the report of PenCom’s 2024 routine inspection of the Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) and to thank the Governor for confirming his participation as Special Guest at the Pension Industry Leadership Retreat starting 8 May 2025. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
