NUJ INAUGURATES RE-ELECTED LAWAN EXCO MEMBERS

The Lagos State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, on Thursday, April 30, inaugurated the newly-constituted  executive council members of the Labour Writers Association of Nigeria, LAWAN, who will steer the affairs of the association for the next three years. 

The voting, which  commenced at 10:25am, saw the re-election of Comrade Toba Agboola of the Nation Newspaper, as the  Chairman, along with six other exco members, while the position of Auditor remains vacant, as nobody showed interest for it. 

Other re-elected exco members include Sunday Ojeme of New Telegraph Newspaper, as the Vice Chairman;  Adenike Owoeye-Ajiboye (Secretary) and Gloria Nwafor of Guardian Newspaper (Assistant Secretary).

 Joy Obakeye of Daily Times retains her position as treasurer and Andrew Ojiezel of Leadership Newspapers emerged as the Financial Secretary.

Announcing the results of the affirmation votes, the Chairman of the  Electoral Committee,  Comrade Sylvester  Okereke, declared that all the six candidates were duly-elected with 19 votes-sixteen voted physically, while three members voted online. 

The voting, which  commenced at about 10:25am ended 11:35am, after which votes were collated and counted in the presence of the representatives of the Lagos state council of the NUJ.

Lagos NUJ Chairman, Comrade Leye Ajayi, who was represented by his Vice Chairman, Comrade Philip Nwosu and the Assistant Secretary, Comrade Olayide Awosanya inaugurated the new exco members, urging them to live up to expectations.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected Chairman, Comrade Agboola appreciated members for re-electing him, promising not to disappoint them.

Some stakeholders, including members of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) have congratulated the new exco members on their successful elections.

Members of the  electoral committee included, Comrade Sylvester Okereke (Chairman); Comrade Ebere Obinagwam (Secretary) and Comrade Afolabi Oyekunle (member).

CPS Pensioners in Lagos state call on Gov. Sanwoolu, to expedite action on the payment of their Benefits.

The delay in the payment of their Pension Arears and other entitlements is worrisome to the Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state, who called on Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to quickly take a decisive action to pay their areas and other entitlements as approved by President Bola Tinubu. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
