Agbado-Oke Odo LCDA Chairman, Mayor Jimoh Ishola Ejigbadero has urged residents to embrace tree planting to save the environment and also ensure that every tree planted is properly nurtured to maturity.
Mayor Jimoh Ejigbadero said this yesterday at the tree planting exercise by the Council to mark the tree planting exercise in Lagos state which the council keyed into.

reaffirmed his administration commitment to environmental sustainability by participating in the 2026 Lagos State Tree Planting Day, held at the Council Secretariat on Tuesday, 14th July , 2026.
The event, held under the theme "Trees for Lagos: Our City, Our Responsibility," brought together government officials, traditional leaders, community stakeholders, environmental advocates, students and residents to promote environmental conservation and encourage a culture of tree planting across the community.
Mayor Abiodun Jimoh Isola described the annual exercise as more than a ceremonial event, saying it is a strategic investment in the future of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA and Lagos State.
The Chairman further stated that tree planting remains one of the most effective solutions to environmental challenges such as flooding and soil erosion, which continue to threaten many communities.
"Planting a tree is an act of hope and a long-term investment in our environment. The responsibility does not end with planting; we must nurture these trees so that future generations can enjoy cleaner air, cooler surroundings and a healthier environment," the Chairman said.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman ,who also double as the Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Kehinde Shobayo, emphasized the vital role of trees in sustaining a healthy ecosystem
He encouraged every resident, school, business and community organisation to cultivate the habit of planting trees, describing it as a simple but powerful way of safeguarding the environment.
Representing the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, Mrs. Margaret Ayanyompe commended the leadership of Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA for supporting the Lagos State Government's environmental initiatives.
She urged residents to actively participate in protecting the environment by planting and preserving trees, noting that environmental sustainability requires collective commitment.
The programme was attended by several dignitaries, including the representative of the Honourable Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mrs. Margaret Ayanyompe; the Vice Chairman Hon. Shobayo kehinde,Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Wasiu Aduragbemi; the Council Manager Dr. Osodipe Oladapo, Baales from various communities; the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC), Comrade Ernest Kasumu councillors, party leaders ,management staff, directors, community leaders, students and residents.
The highlight of the event was the symbolic planting of tree seedlings within the Council Secretariat by the Executive Chairman, the Commissioner's representative and other dignitaries, reaffirming their shared commitment to building a greener, healthier and more resilient Agbado Oke-Odo LCDA.
As the exercise concluded, participants pledged to sustain the campaign beyond the annual celebration by planting and nurturing more trees in homes, schools, workplaces and public spaces, ensuring that Agbado Oke-Odo remains at the forefront of environmental sustainability in Lagos State.
