Lagos State CPS Pensioners lament delay in paying their Arreas and entitlements, by Lagos state Government.
By Afolabi Oyekunle.
Pensioners under the Contributory Pension Scheme in Lagos state have expressed their disappointment and queried the delay in paying their pension Arears and entitlements by the Lagos state government.
According to most of them since President Bola Tinubu unanimously consented and approved the payment of pension Arears and increase of entitlements in 2025, the federal pensioners had been paid, while their counterparts in Lagos state are "begging" to be paid.
The Pensioners said they are worry that the promises made by Governor Babajide Sanwoolu that he will implement the directive of President Bola Tinubu concerning the payment has not been fulfilled.
Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu.
They lament that the low monthly payment under the Contributory Pension Scheme could not sustain them contributing to many challenges some of them face, health wise, and in the death of some members.
According to them, the information they got from Lagos State Pension Commission (LASPEC) that complications of the total emoluments have been completed are just hear say as they have not been brought to reality.
The Pensioners therefore appealed to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to accelerate the payment of their entitlements and relieve them of the hardship, mental torture they are going through.
" Governor Babajide Sanwoolu should not pass the payment to the in-coming Governor as this will be unfair." They argued that Lagos state government cannot claim not to have enough financial capability to pay.
They are therefore calling on President Bola Tinubu and PenCom to see to their plight and compel Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to pay their entitlements.
Meanwhile, NUPCPS Chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Omisande said there are assurances that the money will be paid by the government
Comrade Omisande called on LASPEC to tidy up its job and send the report to Governor Babajide Sanwoolu on time.
It could be recalled that President Bola Tinubu in his magnanimity has been addressing issues concerning Pensioners and addressing some lapses of the past. Apart from granting increase in allowances, he recently approved the restoration of gratuity to CPS Pensioners.
It now behoves on the 5 states implementing the Contributory Pension Scheme to follow the good steps of Mr. President for the betterment of their retirees.
