Lagos State Flags Off PMOD Consultancy for Omi Eko Project, Reinforces Commitment to Modern Water Transport

 The Lagos State Government has officially kick-started the Project Management, Operations and Design (PMOD) Consultancy for the Omi Eko Project, marking another major milestone in the implementation of the landmark initiative aimed at transforming water transportation across the State.

Speaking at the PMOD Consultancy Kick-off Meeting held in Lagos, the Honourable Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, described the commencement of the consultancy as a critical step towards delivering a modern, efficient and sustainable water transport system for Lagos residents.

According to the Commissioner, the kick-off meeting signals the beginning of a strategic partnership that will provide the technical leadership, operational guidance and project management expertise required for the successful delivery of the Omi Eko Project.

"The Omi Eko Project represents one of the most ambitious investments in inland waterways transportation in Africa. 

Beyond modern infrastructure and electric ferry technology, the project is designed to improve connectivity, reduce travel time, enhance passenger safety, stimulate economic activities and contribute meaningfully to environmental sustainability through cleaner transport solutions," Osiyemi said.

He noted that the PMOD Consultant's role extends beyond project management and design, stressing that the consultancy will play a pivotal role in coordinating stakeholders, supporting implementation and ensuring the successful delivery of the project.

The Commissioner emphasized that the success of the Omi Eko Project would depend on close collaboration among the Lagos State Government, development partners, consultants, contractors and host communities.

He also expressed the appreciation of the Lagos State Government, under the leadership of Governor Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, to the French Development Agency (AFD), the European Investment Bank (EIB) and the European Union (EU) for their continued support and confidence in the State's vision for sustainable urban mobility.

Osiyemi further commended the Omi Eko Project Team, the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) and all stakeholders whose dedication has brought the project to its current stage.

Speaking on behalf of the Project Management, Operations and Design (PMOD) Consultancy, the Head of Delegation and Director, International Unit, Planet SA, Mr. Dimitris Galanis reaffirmed the consultancy's commitment to delivering its assignment in line with international best practices.



"We are honoured to partner with the Lagos State Government and its development partners on this transformational project. Our team is committed to providing world-class project management, operational planning and technical expertise to ensure the successful implementation of the Omi Eko Project. We look forward to working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deliver a safe, efficient and sustainable water transport system that will benefit millions of Lagos residents," the Head of Delegation said.

The Omi Eko Project is a flagship initiative of the Lagos State Government designed to revolutionise water transportation through modern infrastructure, electric ferry services and improved operational systems, while promoting environmental sustainability and economic development across the State.

The Commissioner also expressed confidence that the expertise of the PMOD team and the commitment of all stakeholders would ensure the successful delivery of the project.

PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts.
