CPS Pensioners appeal to well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid........ Prevail on Gov. Sanwoolu to pay them their benefits.

Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state have called on well meaning Nigerians to come to their aid and help in persuading Lagos state Governor, Babajide Sanwoolu towards  their demands and pay the Pensioners their pension enhancement and wage increases.

The Chairman of the National Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension Scheme,  in Lagos state, Comrade  Michael Omisande made the appeal while cataloguing the plight of pensioners in Lagos state.

Comrade Omisande said from indications the  Sanwoolu administration is adamant to pay the Pensioners

The Pensioners have earlier declared their intention to go on protest if their benefits were not paid after the 19 days ultimatum given to the state Government.

The ultimatum ends on August 19th

He said many of the Pensioners had died, many bedridden,suffer terminal ailments, and many cannot afford two square meals. 

According to Comrade Omisande "Many of us have turned the general Hospital to our abode with no money to buy drugs. To crown it all this government has turned us to professional beggars. Yet we are in a state of excellence.
The Sanwo olu administration also refused to pay the DBS 57 months Consequential adjustment arrears just because they are now very very old. He is making old people to shed tears. SanwoOlu should not forget that we are the birds that laid the golden eggs."


He recalled that before the Advent of CPS in Nigeria there was a  Defined Benefit Scheme DBS. When it was observed that the DBS was characterized with many defects then, Obasanjo administration sent the some civil servants abroad to study their pension scheme over there. The civil servants came back with good reports and he asked them to implement it. 

At the implementation stage In 2007 the civil servant manipulated the scheme. They implemented the scheme wrongly at the detriment of the end users. Later there was agitation that the scheme should be scraped .

'In 2017,  the NUP created the CPS arm to fight the injustice at the National level. In 2019 the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension scheme Lagos state Council was established. The Union was opposed by the Lagos state government but with pressure and experience we got to where we are today."

"President Bola Ahmed Tinubu approved #758billion Naira to cater for the inadequacies bedevilled the CPS sector and federal Pensioners were paid in November 2025.

The governor of Lagos state, Mr Sanwo olu invited our Union in May 2025 and promised to pay as federal pays. The Governor collected the Template since January 2026, engaged the Actuary who completed the work and arrive at a total cost of #150 Billions, since May 2026. Up till now he is yet to pay. 

This made the Union to give the state government A 19 Day ultimatum from Ist August till 19th August, 2026 to credit the account of the Pensioners through their PFA. Failure to pay will attract a mass protest on Monday 31st August 2026. 

These Pensioners have been placed on suicidal Pensions such as #20k, #30k,#40k,#50k and a Director earns an average of #70k per month. While a Director in Ogun state earns an average of #250k per month. Some were placed on zero pension  Embloc) .

CPS Pensioners in Lagos state call on Gov. Sanwoolu, to expedite action on the payment of their Benefits.

The delay in the payment of their Pension Arears and other entitlements is worrisome to the Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state, who called on Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to quickly take a decisive action to pay their areas and other entitlements as approved by President Bola Tinubu. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
