Lagos CPS Pensioners stormed streets in their zones, call on Governor Sanwoolu to pay their entitlements.

Hundreds of Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state today stormed streets and roads in their zones with placards in protest against the delay in the implementation of their entitlements and wages as approved by President Bola Tinubu.

Singing solidarity songs and showing their anger they condemned the delay saying it was injustice to them to be denied their benefits.

Speaking with newsmen they said the delay in paying the entitlements does not portray Governor Babajide Sanwoolu in good light to them.

According to them many of them are dying daily while many are sick as they could not adequately taken care of themselves due to the low pension payment they receive monthly.

In his message, the Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Lagos state, Comrade Olufemi Olanrewaju said it is an act of injustice for  Lagos state to continue to deny the Pensioners their defined entitlements.

According to him, no fewer than two thousand pensioners had passed on while waiting endlessly to get their entitlements from the government while hundreds are sick due to paucity of funds to take care of themselves.

He wondered why Governor Babajide Sanwoolu has refused to honour his pledge to pay the Pensioners since receiving the actuary report detailing the total package to be paid.

Comrade Olanrewaju said today's warning protest is a signal to the state government that a Mother of all protests is looming on 31st August 2026, in which pensioners will storm the seat of government in Alausa and the Lagos state House of Assembly and will remain there until their demands are met.

He said Pensioners in Lagos state deserve better treatment as their federal counterparts.

" A level 17 Pensioner earns less than sixty thousand naira monthly.  What we are getting from the government is suicidal. We die weekly due to malnutrition and we have been turned to beggars after a glorious service to the state.
The Senior citizens should be treated with dignity, honour and not neglect as we laid the golden eggs, he said".

Speaking with FocusNews, Chairman NUPCPS in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Omisande said the Pensioners will not relent in the struggle until all their entitlements are paid.

He said it is not fair that the Pensioners are being treated as second citizens in the state.
Comrade Omisande reiterated that the Mother's of all protests will take place on 31st August 2026 at the government House Alausa, if the government fails to pay the Pensioners before that day.

PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts.
