Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state are set up for warning protests across the state on Monday 24th 2026.
This is as a result of the non- implementation of the Pension increase and wages enhancement for Contributory Pensioners by the Lagos State government and expiration of the 19 days ultimatum, given on August 1st and expires on 19th of August.
According to a statement signed by Comrade Michael Omisande
Chairman, NUPCPS, Lagos State Council, the Pensioners have decided for a warning protests in all the zoned across the state on Monday 24th August 2026.
He said this is the outcome of a resolution at a meeting by the Executive members of the Union and Co-ordinators.
Comrade Michael Omisande said
the Mother of protests will take place on 31st August 2026 if their request have not been met by then.
He said the Police Authorities have be informed towards adequate .
Governor Babajide Sanwoolu
He therefore called on the Contributory Pensioners to see the action as a way of demanding their rights from government and free themselves from poverty .
He said many of the Pensioners had died, many bedridden,suffer terminal ailments, and many cannot afford two square meals.
According to Comrade Omisande "Many of us have turned the general Hospital to our abode with no money to buy drugs. To crown it all this government has turned us to professional beggars. Yet we are in a state of excellence.
The Sanwo olu administration also refused to pay the DBS 57 months Consequential adjustment arrears just because they are now very very old. He is making old people to shed tears. SanwoOlu should not forget that we are the birds that laid the golden eggs."
He recalled that before the Advent of CPS in Nigeria there was a Defined Benefit Scheme DBS. When it was observed that the DBS was characterized with many defects then, Obasanjo administration sent the some civil servants abroad to study their pension scheme over there. The civil servants came back with good reports and he asked them to implement it.
At the implementation stage In 2007 the civil servant manipulated the scheme. They implemented the scheme wrongly at the detriment of the end users. Later there was agitation that the scheme should be scraped .
'In 2017, the NUP created the CPS arm to fight the injustice at the National level. In 2019 the Nigeria Union of Pensioners Contributory Pension scheme Lagos state Council was established. The Union was opposed by the Lagos state government but with pressure and experience we got to where we are today."
He said the CPS Pensioners will continue to agitate for their rights .
