Pensioners urged to prioritize their health.

Pensioners in Lagos state adviced  to prioritize their health, instead of seeking for jobs that could further compound their health.

This advice is coming from the Deputy Chairman of the Lagos state NUPCPS,Comrade Salawu Lateef, while speaking with FocusNews on the sideline of the 3rd Business Journal FINTECH'26 in Lagos attended by a cross section of the CPS Executive.



Comrade Lateef said the bad situation in the country may have been forcing some of the Pensioners to be looking towards new jobs instead of consolidating themselves after many years in service.

He however promised that after the meeting with LASPEC officials next Monday, 3rd of August,  the executive will decide on the next step to take towards seeing that the Pensioners receive their pension enhancement and wage increase.

Comrade Lateef said the union will not hesitate to call the Pensioners to exercise their human rights to protest against the state government if the outcome is not favourable.

Meanwhile the  Union has  given the Lagos State Government, 19 days notice,  to credit the Accounts of the Pensioners at the Pension Fund Administrators, PFAs, or face persistent protests.

This is contained in a statement by the NUPCPS Chairman, Comrade Michael Omisande.


According to him failure to meet this demand will amount to embarking on A MOTHER  OF PROTEST, tentatively on 31st August, 2026.

"The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State has been notified of the impeding protest which we suspended on 1st April, 2026, following interventions from Eminent personalities in the Pension Sector and Labour Movement.


You will recall that many of our people are dying, facing serious terminal health challenges , thrown out of their rented apartments and could not eat two square meal again due to the suicidal Pensions being paid and the leadership of the state is insensitive about the issue. 

It could be recalled that the Lagos state government has been " dancing round the circle" concerning the payment of the Pensioners entitlements and wages increase as the Lagos State Pension Commission, LASPEC has refused to send the details of the captured increases to the state government for approval.

While the federal retirees have been  basking in joy as a result of the payment of their benefits and increased wages since December 2025, their Lagos state counterparts continue to eager waiting for the state government for the payment.

Meanwhile, the Association of Financial Inclusion Agents of Nigeria, has shown its willingness to partner with the Lagos state NUPCPS towards ensuring that the Pensioners key into its empowerment program.

National Secretary of the Association, Stephen Adeoye said collaboration between the body and the Pensioners Union will ensure that the Pensioners are not left out in the empowerment scheme 

According to him, one million people are to be empowered in Abuja in September, 70percent of which are women.

CPS Pensioners in Lagos state call on Gov. Sanwoolu, to expedite action on the payment of their Benefits.

PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
