Governor Sanwoolu to meet Pensioners towards addressing their demands.

A meeting is scheduled for tomorrow, Thursday 3rd of December between the Governor of Lagos state, Babajide Sanwoolu and leaders of the NUPCPS and DBS and Labour leaders towards looking into the demands of the Pensioners and offer solutions.

The Pensioners have been demanding for the payment of their pension enhancement and wage increase as approved by the federal government.

The non-compliance by the Lagos state government to these demands led to  MEGA protest at the Lagos House, Alausa, on Monday 31st August 2026, involving thousands of the Pensioners.

Reacting to the new development, the NUPCPS chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Omisande said the Pensioners are resolute on their demands from the Lagos state government.

" l shall go to Thursdays meeting with the determination not to compromise on our demands. 
Our voices have been heard nationally and internationally. We remain focussed and resolute."

"During the last meeting , the Director General, Lagos State Pension scheme, Babalola Obilana said '"we cannot pay overnight" He is the one misleading the Governor.

This statement from the DG LASPEC reveals that he is the mitigating factor impeding the progress of DBS and CPS Pensioners in Lagos State."

The demands of the Pensioners fall into two categories, for the CPS and  DBS Pensioners

The demands of the Pensioners are:

Under CPS.  

 1. 16 years pension increase arreas. A. 15percent in 2010. B. 33percent in 2019 consequential adjustment C. 20percent and 28percent in 2024 D. 32 thousand naira wage award of 2024, effective date January 2024.

Under DBS.
Payments of 57 months arrears of 2019 consequential adjust 2. 12 months arrears of 12 months arrears of 20percent of 20percent and 28percent Pension increment of 2024 3. Payment of arrears of 32thousand wage award effective from January 2024. 

The Pensioners also want Pensioners in Parastatals to be  moved to state oracle as they could not depend on subvention.

CPS Pensioners in Lagos state call on Gov. Sanwoolu, to expedite action on the payment of their Benefits.

The delay in the payment of their Pension Arears and other entitlements is worrisome to the Contributory Pensioners in Lagos state, who called on Governor Babajide Sanwoolu to quickly take a decisive action to pay their areas and other entitlements as approved by President Bola Tinubu. PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
