Pensioners accuse Governor Sanwoolu of working against the interests of President Bola Tinubu.'

By Afolabi Oyekunle

Lagos state Governor Babajide Sanwoolu has been accused of working at cross purposes to the aim and aspirations of President Bola Tinubu who wants a better living for all Pensioners in the country.

The accusation was made by NUPCPS Lagos Chairman, Comrade Michael Omisande in a letter to CPS Pensioners in which he said Governor Sanwoolu is trying to undercut the payment expected to be paid to them.

Comrade Michael Omisande/  Governor Babajide Sanwoolu.

"A situation where a governor said he will pay below  the model of his Principal is not acceptable, it is barbaric, it is insulting,
it is suicidal and against the lay down laws."

Comrade Omisande said the Union has  appealed to the State House of Assembly for intervention and for members to use their Legistilative power to restraint the governor from setting peaceful Lagos ablaze.

These are the people who laid the Golden eggs and their efforts must not be paid with Tear gas.

According to him, It is the joy of  President Bola Tinubu to make every pensioner to be happy and this he demonstrated this  by obeying the Section 173 sub section  3,section 210 sub section 4 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria as amended in 2023.

He has also bowed to Section 15 subsection 4 of the Pension Reform Acts of 2004 as amended in 2014.

"As Pensioners who transisted from DBS to CPS in April 2007 in Lagos state, we are all eligible to  get this money but what we received was being tear gassed."

Comrade Omisande said   Governor Babajide Sanwoolu has been adequately equipped financially to meet the Pensioners challenges and wondered the problems he is facing.

"Is he doing this because his tenure is ending? Is he doing this because his candidate in Lagos state does not emerge? Is he doing this because he has another Presidential candidate in mind? Does he has an health related issues? Is it because he is not a son of the soil? Was he misled by his inexperienced Adviser on Pensions matter. All these call for forensic investigation .'"

It could be recalled that the Federal pensioners had been paid since last year all their entitlements as approved by President Bola Tinubu, but their counterparts in Lagos state are still struggling to get paid.

To make the matter worse, while Governor Babajide Sanwoolu is already ascribing to the payment to the Pensioners, he is saying he cannot pay them the same as their federal counterparts.
