Pensioners in Lagos vow not to vote APC in the Gubernatorial election.

Pensioners in Lagos state have vow not to vote for APC during the Gubernatorial election but rather vote for another party.

They however promised to vote for President Bola Tinubu during the Presidential election.

Their stand was made known yesterday during the protest carried out at the Government House in Ikeja to protest the unconcerned attitude of the State government in paying their pension enhancement benefits and wages increase as announced by President Bola Tinubu to Pensioners under the Contributory Pensioners Scheme and DBS.

Reiterating their stand,the NUPCPS chairman in Lagos state, Comrade Michael Omisande said the Lagos state government, Mr. Babajide Sanwoolu should be blamed for their stand because of his uncared attitude  both to the Pensioners under the CPS and DBS.


He said they will also mobile their children, relatives and friends to follow suit. 

Comrade Omisande said the Lagos state government receives billions of Naira from federal allocations while  its internal generated revenue has increased substantially yet the government does not want to listen to their demands.

"If Babajide Sanwoolu wants to carry our money away after leaving office, we are saying No. We as Pensioners are the birds that lay the eggs,but they don't want us to benefit."

He said they are demanding that the CPS Pensioners are  pay their 16years pension arreas and DBS 57 months pension arreas and other benefits. 

Comrade Omisande said the Pensioners will not relent in their agitation until their demands are met.

Meanwhile, a meeting has been scheduled for Thursday between the Pensioners and Lagos state Governor on the matter. This was announced after the protest yesterday following a meeting between the Executive of the Pensioners and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Ayinde.

The Chairman, Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP Lagos state Council, Comrade Olufemi Olanrewaju listed the demands of the Pensioners .
Under CPS. 1. 16 years pension increase arreas. A. 15percent in 2010. B. 33percent in 2019 consequential adjustment C. 20percent and 28percent in 2024 D. 32 thousand naira wage award of 2024, effective date January 2024.

Under DBS.
Payments of 57 months arrears of 2019 consequential adjust 2. 12 months arrears of 12 months arrears of 20percent of 20percent and 28percent Pension increment of 2024 3. Payment of arrears of 32thousand wage award effective from January 2024. 

The Pensioners also want Pensioners in Parastatals to be  moved to state oracle as they could not depend on subvention.

The dramatic aspect of the protest yesterday was when the Pensioners were tear gassed by the police making them to run for their lives.

Meanwhile, this has been condemned by Nigerians saying Pensioners have the right to peaceful protests to demand for their rights.

CPS Pensioners in Lagos state call on Gov. Sanwoolu, to expedite action on the payment of their Benefits.

PENCOM pledges to see that Lagos State pays CPS retirees.

Director General of National Pension Commission, Ms Omolola Oloworaran has pledged that the Commission will fast track and work towards Lagos State government paying retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme what is due to them like their federal counterparts. She made the pledge at a media workshop in Lagos for journalists.
