The National Pension Commission PenCom will kick off its awareness campaign for broad span pension for all to divergent interest groups with robust engagement not deployed before.
The proosed campaign is designed to enable more Nigerian income earners to embrace the need to protect their future.
Speaking at the 2026 Media Conference, held Tuesday Oct 6, in Lagos, the Director General (DG), PenCom, Ms. Omollola Oworaran, said the five day event
would henceforth be an annual event .
According to her this year’s inaugural programme would focus on youths, entrepreneurs, self employed and retirees.
Omolola posited that PenCom's objective is to bring pension home to Nigerians, making the public realise the need to have pension amid preparing for secure future.
The citizens she emphasised, should understand the operation of the contributory pension scheme (CPS), she went on.
The programme is expected to begin with the youth engagement day, drawing together the pension operators, PFAs, agents to unfold the dynamics of their operations and align the youths with pension right from the first day at work.
The day will also unveil the winners of the essay competition, for secondary school students, tertiary institutions and members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
Day two focuses on entrepreneurs and self employed. Laced with a national SME fair, attendees will get more understanding on the benefits of pension enrollment.
Day three is for senior citizens with special devotion to their concerns and benefits. On the card for them is PenCare, the Commission’s retiree healthcae initiative, as well as minimum pension guarantee, which provides minimum level of pension protection for eligible retirees under the CPS.
Day four is a national pension summit day bringing together regulators, pension operators, employers and other stakeholders to rub minds on policy innovation, service delivery, leadership, accountability and the expansion of pension coverage.
The programme will be rounded up with press day, giving journalists the opportunity to engage the Commission on the expected outcome of the week and various takeawys from the in person and digital events that afforded more people to follow livestraming.
Holding up PenCare, which relates to senior citizens, PenCom DG said about 30,000 low income retirees would be covered under the first phase and, scheduled to commence November 2026.
Oworaran emphasised that PenCare along with minimum pension guarantee, are aimed at strengthening the social protection component of the pension system and douses some of the challenges faced by Nigerians after retirement.
